VICTIM - All Our Dreams Are Gone LP (Rave Up Rec.) 12,50 EURFormed in Belfast in Mid -1977, Victim soon became familiar faces on the emerging Belfast scene. Following their appearance on the legendary UTV punk documentary 'It Makes You Want Top Spit' and a rapidly increasing live following, Terri Hooley signed the band to his Good Vibrations label in 1978 and released Strange Thing By Night / Mixed Up World 7". In early 1978, prompted by a lack of venues, Victim made a trip to a local city centre pub because they heard it had a stage! They secured a gig and the legendary Harp Bar was born as a punk venue. In July 1979 they were offered a modest record deal by TJM Records and decided to depart to England, settling in Manchester. Early gigs saw them playing with The Fall and Revillos as well as playing the legendary Factory club to accompany the screening of Shellshock Rock, a film on Irish punk featuring among others Victim. A second release Why Are Fire Engines Red / I Need You on TJM secured good reviews and radio support from John Peel despite its horrendous cover. In November 1979 Victim supported the Damned on an extensive tour. Rat Scabies produced the band's third and in my view best single The Teenage / Junior Criminals / Hang Onto Yourself released in 1980 on Illuminated records. The band continued for several years with line up changes including Mike Joyce (later of The Smiths) and Toni Isaac (the girl leaning against a lamppost on Jilted John's single of the same name!) before deciding to call it a day. This anthology contains a great selection of all their punk material. If you are a fan of Undertones and Stiff Little Fingers, don't miss it!!!

On the flip 'death' starts like a long lost 60's 'girls in the garage' nugget before turning into a much darker beast with reverb vocals and guitars taking the lead.

It's an ugly sound - sometimes frenzied and sometimes totally entropic. Unlike so much music in 2010, VOGUE doesn't want to inflate your sense of euphoria. The songs on the record are what you can expect from VOGUE - harsh, raw, unexpected tempo juggling. They want to stub out enthusiasm like a cigarette on a forehead. This album is diverse, but VOGUE ain't no dilettantes. If you like their former stuff you'll love those tracks, too!

The 12" is a mongo-masterpiece of KBD dummy punk, and evokes some sort of detention hall consortium of folks like The Trend, The Gizmos, and Suicidal Tendencies tossed together. This one is something of a concept effort, though we'll be damned if we can fully wrap our heads around what Mr. Ritalin is on about here. American foreign policy, religiosity, and y'all's proclivity for Pharaoh-worship are all grist for the mill on these songs. The 12" runs at 45 rpm on Puke coloured vinyl.

Anyway, THE VON ERICH SUICIDE MISSION does not sound like the GHETTO WAYS, but the band is similar genius: They play high eneregy rock’n’roll that reminds you of TURBONEGRO, KISS, NEW BOMB TURKS and the great LOOKER from Laramie, WY. „Sunshine“ sounds like TRBNGRs „Good Head“ on speed and Glenn Danzig would have killed for a song like „Nacho“ in the early 80ies. The whole record is filled up to the max with coolness and enthusiasm. Everything is said and done in 20 minutes. But: After this 20 minutes you will run straight back to your turntable and restart playing the record from the beginning. This is a promise!
